Bob '61 & Lynn Murray

"When I was young, a distant cousin, without any children, adopted our family and made possible my education at Brooks. That incredible experience for me became the critical foundation for everything I have been able to accomplish - both professionally and personally. That's why I set up this trust, so that when we are gone, there will always be students at Brooks for whom I am that "distant cousin" who made their life-altering experience possible."

Please feel free to email or call Bob at (860) 633-1265 if you have any questions.

"Throughout my six years at Brooks I had great teachers: Bragdon, Waterston and Mr. A himself, among many others. They worked us hard in the classroom and outside of it. Teachers seldom receive the recognition they deserve for their great influence in this world. My giving is a way for me to honor and thank my teachers and those who follow them."

"I have chosen to make Brooks my primary charitable beneficiary for a number of reasons. First, because of the small size of the school, the impact of the gift is so much more than if I left it to my college.

Second, and most important to me, I believe strongly in those who are stewarding Frank Ashburn's legacy. They have remained true to his vision of Brooks, his commitment to the individual student, and to preserving the physical beauty of the school while expanding and modernizing it."

Bill Viall '45 P'81

"I graduated in 1944 knowing how to live," Bill explained. "Without Mr. Ashburn, I'd be selling pencils. What he did for me is to set a great example. For me, Brooks School is very highly esteemed."

Nicola and Whitney at home with their children Costas, 3, and Michela, 5.

"When we think back to our time at Brooks, we are overwhelmed with positive memories of lifelong friends, formative experiences and extraordinary teachers. Almost twenty years out now, we still feel a close affinity to Brooks, and we remain committed to supporting the school so that future generations of students will be able to share our same experiences. And we feel great knowing that we are doing our part to provide for Brooks."

Sam Parkman '50

"Brooks School has been a part of my life for more than 50 years. Two of my older brothers graduated from Brooks before me. I spent six years as a student at Brooks and today I serve on the school's Alumni Board. Giving an annuity to Brooks is a way for me to invest back in a school that invested so deeply in me."

Augustin H. Parker III '54

"I look back on my years at Brooks School with fondness and appreciation. I know that Mr. Ashburn and the Masters who taught me were important influences on my life. I remember them with sincere gratitude. Therefore, the gift for Brooks was a great idea. For the annuity, I used money that earned a low rate of interest. I now enjoy a higher rate of return and I'm pleased to have done something for Brooks at the same time. The annuity seems to satisfy both the desire to give to a great cause and the desire to assure an income during the rest of my life. Almost too good to be true!"
